The Italian designer, Giorgio Armani, may be approaching his 80th birthday but the man still has his finger on the pulse of today’s fashion and style trends. Not only does he still design his own clothing range but the brand has now expanded into many other categories such as perfume, sunglasses and more recently Emporio Armani watches.
It’s a far cry from his early career as a window dresser for a Milanese department store but with an innate gift for materials and fabric Armani was soon recruited by some of the large Italian fashion labels and in the 1970’s he launched his own designer collection.
His real breakthrough was winning the contract to clothe Richard Gere for the Hollywood movie “The American Gigolo” in the early 1980’s. Although the movie was a moderate success the Armani suit worn by Gere received almost as much attention as Gere’s performance in the movie and from that point on the Giorgio Armani name became known around the world.
He developed a range of ultra stylish and minimalist clothing that most people would be happy to wear
As his popularity grew and his reputation soared Armani started looking at other ways in which he could breathe his natural talent for style into products other than clothing.
In 2000 he launched a new cosmetics range that proved spectacularly popular and new product ranges quickly followed. Armani sunglasses started to muscle in on the competitive sunglasses market previously dominated by Rayban. A new range of perfume was created and has been so popular that new fragrances are now launched every year.
Armani’s foray into the jewellery market has perhaps been his boldest move to date. The jewellery sector is notoriously difficult to break into with such established names as Tiffany, Patek Philippe etc however, confident of his own talent and the loyalty that customers had to the Armani name, he set about designing watches under the brand name of Emporio Armani watches.
Aside from this clothing range the watches collection has probably been the biggest surprise as customers around the world immediately fell in love with the classic and tasteful designs presented to them by Armani.
With a growing range of watches for both men and women he has cultivated a small but beautiful selection of timepieces that have been warmly welcomed by customers and critics alike.
With prices starting at a reasonable £150 for one of his watches then it’s easy to see why Emporio Armani watches have proven to be so successful.
They say that owning just ONE good watch is what every person should aspire to. If you agree with that sentiment then you can’t go wrong in buying a timepiece from the world’s greatest living designer.
